Flake Epoxy Flooring in Denver Metro

The ultimate combination of durability and style. Flake epoxy systems create a textured, slip-resistant surface that hides imperfections and handles heavy use. Perfect for garages, basements, commercial spaces, and anywhere you need a floor that works as hard as it looks.

What is Flake Epoxy?

Flake epoxy flooring, also known as chip or broadcast epoxy, is one of the most popular and practical floor coating systems available. The system consists of a durable epoxy base coat, decorative vinyl flakes broadcast into the wet coating, and a clear protective topcoat that seals everything together. The result is a beautiful, textured surface that provides superior traction and hides minor imperfections.

The vinyl flakes come in countless color combinations, from subtle granite-like blends to bold multi-color designs. Each flake is made from colored vinyl material that resists chemicals, UV light, and abrasion. When broadcast at full coverage, the flakes create a seamless, decorative surface that looks professional and performs exceptionally well under demanding conditions.

At Elevated Epoxy Co., we’ve installed flake epoxy systems throughout the Denver Metro area for over a decade. From residential garages in Castle Rock to commercial showrooms in Littleton, our flake floors stand up to Colorado’s harsh conditions year after year. We use only commercial-grade materials that exceed industry standards for adhesion, flexibility, and chemical resistance.

Flake epoxy is particularly popular for garages because it handles everything from hot tire pickup to chemical spills without showing wear. The textured surface provides excellent grip even when wet from rain or snow tracked in from outside. And the multi-color flake pattern effectively conceals dust, tire marks, and minor scuffs between cleanings.

Benefits of Flake Epoxy Flooring

Discover why flake epoxy is the go-to choice for garages, basements, and commercial floors across Colorado.

Built-In Slip Resistance

The textured flake surface provides natural traction without additional additives. This makes flake epoxy ideal for areas that may get wet — garages, entryways, laundry rooms, and commercial kitchens.

Hides Imperfections

The multi-color flake pattern effectively conceals minor concrete cracks, patches, and surface variations. Dust, footprints, and small debris blend into the pattern between cleanings.

Hot Tire Resistant

Our commercial-grade flake systems are specifically formulated to resist hot tire pickup. You can park your vehicle immediately after driving without worrying about the coating peeling up.

Chemical Resistant

Oil, gasoline, antifreeze, brake fluid, and cleaning chemicals wipe away without staining or damaging the coating. The seamless surface has nowhere for spills to penetrate.

Custom Color Options

Choose from dozens of pre-designed flake blends or create a custom combination to match your space. From subtle earth tones to bold team colors, we can create any look you want.

Lifetime Warranty

Every flake epoxy installation includes our industry-leading lifetime warranty covering peeling, bubbling, and delamination. We stand behind our work with complete confidence.

Popular Flake Color Blends

Our flake systems offer endless color possibilities. We stock the most popular blends and can create custom combinations for your project. Here are some of our bestselling options:

Saddle Tan

Warm brown and tan tones with subtle cream accents. A versatile choice that complements most garage décor and hides dirt exceptionally well.

Granite Gray

Classic gray tones with black and white flakes create an elegant stone-like appearance. Professional and timeless — our most requested commercial option.

Midnight Storm

Dark charcoal base with silver and blue highlights. A dramatic choice for man caves, home gyms, and modern commercial spaces.

Autumn Blend

Warm reds, oranges, and browns evoke natural stone. Perfect for rustic homes and outdoor-inspired spaces throughout Colorado.

Flake Coverage Options

The amount of flake broadcast affects both appearance and performance. We offer three coverage levels to match your aesthetic preferences and functional needs:

Light Broadcast (25%)

Flakes are scattered sparingly, allowing the colored base coat to show through. Creates a subtle decorative accent while maintaining a smooth surface feel.

Medium Broadcast (50-75%)

Balanced coverage creates a decorative pattern with some base coat visible. Popular for residential applications where aesthetics and budget both matter.

Full Broadcast (100%)

Complete flake coverage creates maximum texture and completely hides the base coat. The most durable option with the best slip resistance. Recommended for garages and commercial use.

Our Flake Epoxy Installation Process

Professional installation is critical for flake epoxy performance. Here’s how we deliver floors that last.

01

Free Consultation

We assess your concrete condition, discuss color options, and explain coverage levels. You’ll receive a detailed quote with no hidden fees or surprises.

02

Surface Preparation

We diamond-grind your concrete to create the ideal surface profile for adhesion. All cracks are repaired, and the floor is thoroughly cleaned of oils and contaminants.

03

Primer Application

A penetrating epoxy primer seals the concrete and creates a chemical bond with the base coat. This step is essential for long-term adhesion in Colorado’s climate.

04

Base Coat & Flake Broadcast

We apply the colored epoxy base coat in sections, immediately broadcasting flakes into the wet coating. Even distribution ensures consistent coverage and appearance.

05

Excess Flake Removal

Once cured, we scrape and vacuum loose flakes from the surface. This creates a level base for the topcoat and ensures proper adhesion.

06

Polyaspartic Topcoat

A clear UV-stable topcoat seals the flakes and provides chemical resistance. This final layer determines the sheen level — from satin to high-gloss.

Flake Epoxy Applications

Flake epoxy’s versatility makes it suitable for almost any concrete surface. Here are the most common applications we install throughout the Denver Metro area:

Residential Garages: By far our most popular application. Flake epoxy transforms dull garage concrete into a showroom-quality surface that resists hot tires, chemicals, and daily wear. The textured surface is safe even when wet from rain or snow.

Basements: Flake epoxy works beautifully in finished basements, providing a durable foundation for living spaces, home gyms, and entertainment areas. The seamless surface is easy to clean and won’t harbor mold or mildew.

Commercial Showrooms: Auto dealerships, equipment showrooms, and retail spaces use flake epoxy for its professional appearance and easy maintenance. The slip-resistant texture is safe for high foot traffic.

Warehouses & Workshops: Industrial environments benefit from flake epoxy’s chemical resistance and durability. The textured surface stands up to forklifts, pallet jacks, and heavy equipment traffic.

Restaurants & Commercial Kitchens: Food-safe flake epoxy provides a slip-resistant, easy-to-clean surface for commercial food preparation areas. The seamless coating meets health department requirements.

Flake Epoxy FAQ

How long does flake epoxy installation take?
Most residential garage floors are completed in 2-3 days. Day one involves surface preparation and priming. Day two includes base coat application and flake broadcast. Day three is topcoat application. You can walk on the floor after 24 hours and park vehicles after 72 hours. Larger commercial projects may take longer.
Is flake epoxy better than solid color epoxy?
Both systems offer excellent durability and protection. Flake epoxy has advantages in slip resistance (the texture provides natural traction), imperfection hiding (the multi-color pattern conceals dust and minor blemishes), and aesthetic variety (countless color combinations available). Solid colors offer a sleeker, more uniform appearance. We’ll help you choose based on your priorities.
How do I clean and maintain flake epoxy floors?
Regular sweeping or dust mopping removes loose debris. For deeper cleaning, mop with warm water and a mild cleaner like dish soap or a dedicated floor cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals like bleach or ammonia. For garages, we recommend occasional rinsing with a garden hose. The textured surface does trap some dirt — a stiff bristle push broom helps release embedded debris.
Will flake epoxy work on my cracked concrete?
Minor hairline cracks can be filled and coated over successfully. Larger structural cracks or actively moving joints require repair before coating. During our free consultation, we assess your concrete condition and explain any necessary repairs. Some crack repairs are included in our standard preparation; extensive repairs may be quoted separately.
Can I park my car on flake epoxy immediately?
We recommend waiting 72 hours before parking vehicles on new flake epoxy. Light foot traffic is fine after 24 hours. Full cure takes about 7 days — during this time, avoid dragging heavy objects or placing jack stands directly on the coating. After full cure, the floor will handle normal vehicle and equipment traffic without issues.
How does flake epoxy handle hot tires?
Our commercial-grade flake systems are specifically formulated to resist hot tire pickup — the phenomenon where hot tires pull coating off the floor. We use high-solids epoxy and polyaspartic topcoats that flex with temperature changes rather than delaminating. Many big-box store epoxy kits fail from hot tire pickup within months; our professional systems prevent this issue.
What sheen levels are available for the topcoat?
We offer three sheen options: satin (low luster, hides imperfections), semi-gloss (moderate shine, most popular), and high-gloss (showroom shine, requires more maintenance to keep looking perfect). Most residential clients choose semi-gloss for the balance of appearance and practicality. Commercial clients often prefer satin for easier maintenance.
