Castle Rock metallic epoxy works best with 2 to 3 pearl pigment colors over a complementary base. Warm neutrals (copper-on-bronze, gold-on-walnut) suit Colorado earth-tone homes. Dark dramatic blends (charcoal-on-black, navy-on-graphite) suit modern showcase spaces. Sample boards show pattern range before commit.
How Metallic Epoxy Color Works
Metallic epoxy has two color components: the base color (the epoxy itself, mixed to a chosen tone) and the pearl pigments (suspended particles that scatter light). The pearl pigments swirl through the base color during install, creating depth and movement that flat-color floors don't have.
Standard base colors run from white to charcoal with neutral grays, browns, and warm tones in between. Pearl pigments come in dozens of colors: copper, gold, silver, pewter, blue, green, red, bronze. The combination of base + 2 to 3 pearls creates infinite variations.
Warm Earth-Tone Combinations
Colorado homes often lean warm: stone, wood, copper accents, terracotta. Metallic epoxy in warm earth tones complements: copper pearl on bronze base, gold pearl on walnut base, terracotta pearl on amber base. Warm metallics read welcoming and integrate with existing decor.
Most Castle Rock living-space metallic floors (basements, bonus rooms, showcase garages) use warm tones. They photograph well, age gracefully (the metallic patina deepens over years rather than reading dated), and tolerate spills and scratches without obvious damage.
Dramatic Cool-Tone Combinations
Cool-tone metallics (charcoal-on-black, navy-on-graphite, silver-on-pewter) read modern and dramatic. Best for: modern showcase garages, basement entertainment rooms, gym spaces, and high-end retail floors. Cool tones contrast with warm-wood furniture and white-painted walls.
The risk with cool tones: they can feel cold or industrial in spaces meant to be welcoming. We discuss intent before quoting. Most Castle Rock cool-tone metallic projects are showcase or commercial.
Custom Color Matching
We can match metallic epoxy to existing decor or to a photo. Bring a fabric swatch, paint chip, or picture of another project you liked. We mix sample boards using the actual materials and pigments and have you approve before quote-final.
Custom matching adds 1 to 2 weeks of lead time for pigment sourcing. Premium pigments (mother-of-pearl, dichroic flake, holographic) add cost but enable striking effects. Most Castle Rock metallic floors use standard pigment colors and standard base mixes.
How to Choose: Sample Board Process
On every Castle Rock metallic install, we make 2 to 3 sample boards (12-by-12 panels) using the actual pigments and base color we'll use. The sample shows pattern range and color tone in your lighting. Walk on it, set furniture next to it, look at it morning and evening.
After sample approval, the actual floor is poured. The pour creates similar patterns to the sample but every metallic floor is unique because the pour is artistic. Sample-to-floor variance is normal and accounted for in our process.
Castle Rock Epoxy Flooring FAQ
Will the floor look like the sample?
The pattern will be similar but every metallic floor is unique. Sample shows pattern range and color tone.
Can I add metallic to an existing epoxy floor?
Sometimes. Adhesion test on the existing coating first. Often the old coating must be ground off.
How do I clean metallic epoxy?
Sweep, dust mop, wet-mop with mild soap. Avoid abrasive scrubbers that scratch the topcoat.
Cost vs flake epoxy?
Metallic adds 30 to 40 percent over standard flake. The visual impact is dramatic enough that most metallic clients say it's worth it.
Lifespan?
15 to 25 years residential. Refresh-topcoat (sand and re-coat) extends another 10+ years.
